Description

Estimates for this auction are in United States (US) dollars. Bidding will be in US dollars. Combining bold acrylic floral motifs with handwoven indigenous Philippine fabrics, this artwork fuses the contemporary with the traditional. Gracious is an ode to the ingenuity of the women who create these timeless fabrics, which reflects their contributions to the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines. A tribute to resilience, femininity and the timeless beauty of indigenous art practices, Gracious empowers these women by showcasing their traditional crafts and skills. Yeung-Yap is an artist who is committed to exploring the cultural splendour and variety of the Philippines through her mixed media art. By incorporating indigenous Philippine fabrics into her works, she not only draws attention to the artistic significance of these textiles, but crucially the skilled women who create them. Yeung-Yap has been making an impact through her solo exhibitions, which have been held in the Philippines and internationally for the past ten years.
